Nadya Lev is a multimedia artist and technologist. Together with her co-founder Star St. Germain, she is building Aconite, a mixed reality storytelling platform. Aconite defines a mixed reality story as an immersive experience that sits at the intersection of narrative, adventure and game. Aconite stories use the real world as a platform, the body as a controller, and a suite of technology-driven storytelling techniques to blur the line between reality and fiction. Influences informing Aconite include: alternate-reality gaming, psychogeography, immersive theater, escape rooms, live-action roleplaying, geocaching, locative art, and street games.
Prior to Aconite, Nadya co-founded Coilhouse: an award-winning, internationally-distributed print magazine and a global, grassroots community of artists, thinkers, and makers. Closer to a coffee-table book than a disposable periodical, Coilhouse Magazine covered fearless forms of art, music, film, fashion, technology and literature. Nadya has continued her career in publishing parallel to her work on Aconite, and is currently working on a Japanese art book titled “Eros & Thanatos” with Tokyo-based editor Masanao Amano. Her photography has appeared on/in Vogue, Wired, Dazed & Confused, Elle, Harper’s Bazaar, MTV, VH1 and Nick Knight’s SHOWStudio.
She holds a B.F.A. in Journalism with a minor in New Interdisciplinary Media, from Temple University.
