Design with advanced technology often creates spectacular projects, and EPFL+ECAL Lab has contributed many, such as Gimme More, winner of the International Design Festival Berlin. But the Lab goes one step further by also generating concrete knowledge on how to turn emerging technologies into meaningful experiences for the end user. The interdisciplinary team at EPFL+ECAL Lab has competences ranging from design and engineering to
architecture and psychology. Nicolas Henchoz himself has a varied background in science and journalism and has worked as a reporter and anchor for the national
Swiss television service, and as a brand manager and art director. His vision for new media focuses on binding digital content and the physical world in new and meaningful ways. In other words: how the virtual realm can enhance real life and help us to address pertinent societal challenges. Virtual reality, augmented reality and immersive installations are at the core of his Lab, setting new interaction scenarios, visual languages and narrative principles.
