Swiss Pavilion

Switzerland is home to many talents in the new field of VR technology. In recognition of this leadership, it will every year have its own space at the Summit in order to present the most innovative university and start-up projects with the financial support of Pro Helvetia. Crans-Montana and the canton of Valais also have their place in this pavilion; in 2017 they will be represented by Adventures-Lab. A place is reserved for the National Thematic Network named Virtual Switzerland supported by the CTI in Bern.

Amstad Digital Little Death

Amstad Digital will present three projects: Burning Bridges, VReal Estate and Little Death.

Burning Bridges
A Game that might be described as a VR platformer, came to live as an exercise project to learn Unreal Engine 4 and is still in development. The overall theme is figuratively ascending maslow’s pyramid enacted in several dreamworlds for you to explore. Trying to reach ever higher, you are accompanied by a curious and friendly persona while you try to gather pyramid shaped “resolve”-points which serve as ammunition for your bridge maker. But you two won’t stay alone for too long as you are joined by a new different persona after a while and you start needing to defend yourself….

VReal Estate
Any client needs time and enough experience with the property they are about to purchase or invest in to make a decision, VReal Estate ties into that by providing more exposure of the property to the client through VR. We can bring the work of architects alive in 3D space, populate it and let the user walk around in it as if they are actually there. This can include the possibility of simulating weather patterns, day-night cycle and seasonal light-conditions. The options range from simple, short and geared towards mobile devices to realistic interpretations with furnishings etc. geared towards PC – VR sets. Although VR has its limitations compared to a real life tour, it also has strong points where reality just can’t deliver like being free from the constraints of time and experiencing the property throughout the year within a few minutes and from your chosen location.

Little Death
Little death is a cinematic VR experience that aims to combine a virtual environment with live action 360°footage while incorporating the audience into the narrative as a character. In Little Death you ARE Grandma. You’re in a coma. Stuck in limbo between life and death you have the ability to watch over the lives of your family. You can choose what order you want to watch these “episodes” unfold. Some are only seconds long, just a brief glimpse into their lives, while others are much longer. And through it all you are THERE. In the midst of the fights, passions, struggles and adventures. You are an observer to your family’s downfall. Can you get back to the living in time to save them?

IAO VR

IAO VR

The Nilouphar residence was to be built by spring 2017. It would have been one of the first constructions to benefit from new construction rules aimed at densifying a neighbourhood of the villa area of the Collonge-Bellerive district in Geneva. Neighbours concerned about the impact of the size that this large house could have had a recourse that suspended work and induced a blockage that can last up to a year and a half. To convince the neighbourhood, the architects presented cardboard models at different scales with 3D images. These visualization tools specific to the profession, often poorly adapted to the general public, make it difficult to project in space. The immersive VR is currently the only way that a philistine can sneak into the head of an architect or urban planner. The understanding and vision of future spatial materiality is immediate when looking through a virtual reality helmet. We are convinced that it will henceforth be essential for public administrations concerned with regional planning as well as for real estate development companies and finally for the neighbours with any new construction. We look forward to seeing you there.

Limbic Life

Zugsoft

Limbic Life was founded by Dr. Patrik Künzler, a medical doctor and neuroscientist who started to create neuroscience based input devices at MIT. Limbic Life’s first product is the Limbic Chair, a chair-like, compact input device that allows for intuitive, hands-free and low nauseation navigation in VR. It is based on neurological principles.

Limbic Life also researches and provides on screen interaction solutions for VR.Dr. Patrik Künzler, a medical doctor from the University of Zürich, conducted post doctoral research on the limbic system in the lab of Nobel laureate Dr. Susumu Tonegawa at MIT. His focus was how emotional states influence memory-, thought-, and decision making processes in the brain. At the MIT Media Lab Patrik focused his research on how our body can be used to affect emotional states and mental performance through the limbic system in everyday devices, and how the body can be used as an input device in the most natural ways possible. Back in Switzerland, he founded Limbic Life in order to produce and market products developed with this new, neuroscience based approach. The first product of Limbic Life is the Limbic Chair, a sitting device that allows for natural, almost weightless movement of the body in a free flow state. It conveys bodily inputs to communicate with electronic devices based on the same neurological principles that we use in real life and thus allows for hands-free, low nauseation navigation in VR.

Virtual Switzerland

Virtual Switzerland

VIRTUAL SWITZERLAND is a National Thematic Network (NTN) in Virtual Environments Interaction and Simulation supported by the Swiss federal Commission for Technology and Innovation (CTI). This association means bringing together the academic and economic spheres around immersive technologies and linking R&D experts in Swiss universities with those in thriving companies, thereby promoting private as well as academic research laboratories or incubators. It encourages the Swiss economy to embrace progress by sparking ideas and fostering synergies to grasp the full extent of virtual, augmented, and mixed realities, especially in those four business sectors: architecture and construction, manufacturing, medtech, tourism and culture.
